Falco - The Sound Of Muzik
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in Anthem, Non-English, Pop, Rap

Falco

Yes, I’m a Falco fan. Wanna make something of it?

I think the reason I’ve always enjoyed Falco is that A) I thought his music was pretty good, B) he brought an over-the-top sense of bombast to many of his songs and C) he just seemed to be having so much fun. This song is no different.

The Sound Of Muzik is a nice celebration of what a cool thing music is, and also it’s unifying aspects as well. The song is fun, the video is fun, it’s all just F-U-N.

Here’s a link to the video

And of course the lyrics:

Es beginnt in einem Wald, alle Rechte sind bezahlt
Es es endet doch daheim.
Meine Häende sind so kalt, denn die Zeit die ging ins Land
Meine Seele ist so rein.
Die Rose kennt den Duft
Meine Stimme braucht die Luft
Denn der Wind ist so heiß wie nie
Sei es Rock, Punk, Heavy Metal, Politics, or Classical
It’s all to Musik to me

Hey, das waren Zeiten when Hard Rock was Hard Rock
Musik was as tough as a nail
Und unsere Jungs, die waren nicht lazy they got out and made
It crazy but no one left to tell the jail
Der Bube fragt den König
Hey babe do you wanna dance?
Sie machen History dann sie sind scharf wie nie
The first pre-elected Rock n Roll band

The Sound of Musik
Do the bang-bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the bang-bang-boogie, say up jump the boogie
Do the rhythm on the boogie the beat
Do the hip do the hop do the oh-oh-bebop do the freestyle
Rock’n and we never gonna stop
Herr President, wir kennen eine Sprache
Und diese Sprache heißt Musik

The Sound of Musik
Can you hear the band playing, can you feel the bodies swaying
And if you feel the groove you better start to move
Step in time to the rhythm and move your feet to the beat
Hey everybody give Musik a chance and do the universal dance

The Sound of Musik
Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It’s the people’s voice they’re gonna bring up that bell and ring
The Vienna Lipizzaner, they’re doing the rhythm and blues
It’s the Jailhouse-Rock, it’s steppin on my blue suede shoes

The Sound of Musik
It’s Pavarotti, he’s the biggest Bobby Dylan fan
Sie machen alle Musik for boys, girls and big tall man
It’s Otis Redding, he’s sitting on the dock of the bay
Listen to the band, listen to the Big-Band, to the bang-bang
Listen to the bang-bang, blow horn

Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band
Listen to the band
I want you listen to the band
Hey - listen to the band

The Sound of Musik
It’s Lennon-McCartney, Cole Porter too
They’re dancin with my babe, babe - ba - ba - ba - babe - blue
Hey daddy - don’t you bother me - it’s gonna be my
Rock and Roll day - give the children what they want
Hear the universal choir pray

Hear the James Brown song, hear the church choir sing
It’s the people’s voice they’re gonna bring up that bell and ring
It’s Otis Redding, he’s sitting on the dock of the bay
Give the children what they want, hear the children do the boogie
Do the bang-bang, do the boogie-bang
Hu-la-la-hu-la-la-e
E-oh

Trio - Drei Mann Im Doppelbett
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in New Wave, Non-English

Trio

Yes, those fun boys from Germany are at it again.

Drei Mann Im Doppelbett is one of those songs that seems like an afterthought on the album, but it’s really one of the centerpieces. It’s a simple four-chord song with a nice melody that’s extremely hummable. Gotta love that Casiotone.

You can listen to the song below:

And of course, the lyrics (few though they are):

Drei Mann im Doppelbett
Drei Mann im Doppelbett
Drei Mann im Doppelbett

The Plastics - Diamond Head
Posted by Randy Jackson at 6:54 pm in New Wave, Non-English

The Plastics

Once again, the Plastics entertain.

Diamond Head is actually kind of a funny song. On one hand, you have the deep thinking boyfriend, and on the other side the girlfriend who really just wants to have some fun with her boyfriend.

I personally love the back and forth banter, the cool guitar stylings, and that crazy quirky beat. Just a great fun song.

You can listen to the song below:

And of course, the lyrics:

Oh Well! After all!
Westernize is modernize
It’s the positive insecure
In this modern world
Formalism to Bauhaus
From Russian Avant-Garde
Picabia to Manlay
Problems of human race

Oh shut up baby
Don’t be serious
Someday I call your name
Mr. Diamond Head!

So let’s think about it
Donuts is toporogy
“Zeit und Sein”
Endress Progress
A gift from Lauschenberg
Existentialist
Metaphysical de Kiliko
Fall into dilemma

Oh fuck off baby!
Don’t be serious
Someday I call your name
Mr. Diamond Head!

Ah ooh at least
Optimist is pessimist
L’ecume des Jours
Boris Vian
Andarussian dog’s bark
Abstract and informal
Schlemmer and Cubism
Iceberg
Odenberg
Nijinsky
Kandinsky

Oh you bastard
Come here by my side
Listen to the new age
Uhh…it’s comin’

The Plastics - Delicious
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in New Wave, Non-English, Pop

The Plastics

The Plastics were a Japanese New Wave band, and they had a wonderfully quirky style and sound to go along with some pretty good songs. Much of their quirkiness came from their singing a sort of Pidgin-Japanese-English, but it was also fueled by the guitars and the drum work. Delicious is a typical example of their coolness. Don’t ask me what it means.

You can listen to the song below:

And of course, the lyrics:

Tv Ningen Micom Mania
Plastic face technology
Chanel no powder Lichtenstein
Pyjama mama melon papa

Delicious vicious
All day all night

Andy Warhol Jerry Hall
Computer Digital Watch
Planetarium Ne Concorde
Pyjama mama melon papa

Delicious vicious
All day all night

Maserati Fellini
Iwanna Kecha one
Tomato juice
Electric na mustard
Pyjama mama melon papa

Delicious vicious
All day all night

Tokri jikake no Tokyo tower
Polypropiren no photographer
Ice cube tennis shoes
Pyjama mama melon papa

Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in New Wave, Non-English, Punk, Surf

Plastic Bertrand

You know this song. You’ve heard it a bunch, but you probably never knew who it was.

I’ve loved Ca Plane Pour Moi from the first time I’ve heard it. Not just the incongruity of French punk-surf music, but also because it’s just a cool rock and roll song.

Oh, someone posted an English translation at SongMeanings.

Here’s a link to a perfomance on Top Of The Pops

And of course, the lyrics:

(Yam! Bam!)
(Mon chat “Splash”)
Gît sur mon lit
A bouffé sa langue
En buvant (tronc) mon whisky
Quant à moi
Peu dormi, vidé, brimé
J’ai dû dormir dans la gouttière
Où j’ai eu un flash
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
En quatre couleurs

Allez hop!
Un matin
Une (louloute) est venue chez-moi
Poupée de Cellophane
Cheveux chinois
Un sparadrap
Une gueule de bois
A bu ma bière
Dans un grand verre
En caoutchouc
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Comme un indien dans son igloo

Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ça plane pour moi
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Ça plane pour moi

Allez hop! La nana
Quel panard!
Quelle vibration!
De s’envoyer
Sur le paillasson
Limée, ruinée, vidée, comblée
“You are the King of the divan!”
Qu’elle me dit en passant
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
I am the King of the divan

Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ça plane pour moi
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Ça plane pour moi

Allez hop!
T’occupe
T’inquiète
Touche pas ma planète
It’s not today
Quel le ciel me tombera sur la tête
Et que l’alcool me manquera
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Ça plane pour moi

Allez hop! Ma nana
S’est tirée
S’est barrée
Enfin c’est (marre) à tout casser
L’évier, le bar me laissant seul
Comme un grand connard
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Le pied dans le plat

Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ça plane pour moi
Hou! Hou! Hou! Hou!
Ça plane pour moi

Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi
Ça plane pour moi moi moi moi moi
Ça plane pour moi

Trio - Da Da Da
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in New Wave, Non-English

Trio

I love this song. It isn’t anything new, or earth-shaking, or really anything. But damn, it’s fun.

I love the video. It’s very German, and if you know what that means, you rock (for now). Love the Casio, love the simple beat, love the song.

Here’s a link to the video

And of course, the lyrics:

What you do and what you don’t
what you will and what you won’t
what you can and what you can’t
This is what you got to know
loved you though it didn’t show

Ich lieb dich nicht du liebst mich nicht

Da da da I don’t love you you don’t love me

I know why you went away
understand you couldn’t stay
wonder where you are today
after all is said and done
it was right for you to run

Ich lieb dich nicht du liebst mich nicht

Da da da I don’t love you you don’t love me

Falco - Auf Der Flucht
Posted by Randy Jackson at 12:00 am in Disco, New Wave, Non-English, Pop

FalcoIf you thought that Falco was a one-hit wonder…okay, two-hit wonder…well, you’re wrong. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

Auf Der Flucht was a single from the album Einzelhaft (yes, the same album as Der Kommissar and definitely worth tracking down). It doesn’t really matter if you can understand the words or not (although I am curious), it’s got a funky beat and you can get down to it.

And of course, the lyrics:

Westberlin,
Neunzehnhundertsechzig sieben
Erster Eindruck: Grüne Minna,
Straßensperre gegen Spinner.
Habt Ihr Bock auf ‘ne Tracht Prügel,
Wir bedienen Euch nicht übel, aha.

Ecke Joachimstaler Kuhdamm
Ein Exzess,
Wer das Gas als letzter riecht,
Hat als erster den Prozeß.
Ganz Berlin ist eine Wolke,
Und man sieht sich wieder’mal
Auf der Flucht.

Zürich, Limmatquai,
Neunzehnhundertachtzig zwei,
Alles ist in Ordnung,
Nichts an Platz,
Ein Ende hat’s mit dem Rabatz
Gewonnen hat die Steuer,
Und am Seeufer kein Feuer, aha.
Das Fazit aus fünfzehn Jahren
Die Kontrolle zu bewahren,
Edle Werte zu genießen,
Sieht man wohin Gelder fließen
Schmeißt die Rock-Rabauken raus
Und renoviert das Opernhaus, aha.

Was die Ordnung anbelangt,
Hat sich alles, Gott sei dank,
Fast wie ganz von Selbst ergeben,
Denn die starke Hand siegt eben.
Hält die Märchenwelt zusammen
Und die Räuber sind gefangen, aha.

Und für die Zukunft sei gesagt,
Sicher kommt ‘mal wer und fragt,
Was die Jungwähler so denken.
Über Kräfte, die sie lenken,
Schwere Wolken, Donnerschlag
Und wer sieht sich da jetzt
Auf der Flucht,

Auf der Flucht
