This is a fun song, and an even more fun music video. This one took some time to grow on me, but apparently went over quite well in the UK–from what I’ve unearthed, it was Adam and the Ants second number one there.
The song is basically just saying, ‘Be yourself’, and that’s an easy message to get behind.
I have a collection of Adam Ant videos, and I will say that I noticed a slight change in image between this album and Friend Or Foe. Adam was still wearing a goodly amount of makeup, but it was definitely more ‘manly’, for whatever that’s worth. It doesn’t really matter, but it’s something mildly amusing to note.
And of course, the lyrics:
Don’t you ever, don’t you ever
stop being dandy, showing me you’re handsome
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
stop being dandy, showing me you’re handsome
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
ridicule is nothing to be scared of
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
stop being dandy, showing me you’re handsome
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
lower yourself, forgetting all your standards
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
lower yourself, forgetting all your standards
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
ridicule is nothing to be scared of
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
stop being dandy, showing me you’re handsome
silk or leather or a feather
respect yourself and all of those around you
silk or leather or a feather
respect yourself and all of those around you
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
ridicule is nothing to be scared of
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
stop being dandy, showing me you’re handsome
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
lower yourself, forgetting all your standards
don’t you ever, don’t you ever
lower yourself, forgetting all your standards
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
ridicule is nothing to be scared of
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
ridicule is nothing to be scared of…
